FWICE Requests Tax-Free Status for Chhaava, Citing Its Impactful Storytelling
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reached out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to grant tax-free status to the historical drama Chhaava.
In an official statement, FWICE highlighted the film’s significance, stating, “The Hindi movie Chhaava portrays the remarkable tale of sacrifice, bravery, selflessness, and duty of the legendary Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film has resonated with audiences across all age groups, particularly inspiring the youth.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles. The film also features an ensemble cast, including Diana Penty, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Ashutosh Rana. Adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s acclaimed Marathi novel of the same name, Chhaava brings to life the legacy of Sambhaji Maharaj on the big screen.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Acknowledges Chhaava's Success, Responds to Tax-Free Appeal
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently addressed Chhaava's strong box office performance and the widespread calls for it to be granted tax-free status across India.
Expressing his thoughts on the film, Fadnavis stated, “I am happy that a very good movie has been made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While I haven’t watched it yet, I have heard from people that the film has been made without distorting history.”
Regarding the appeal for tax exemption, he clarified that Maharashtra had removed the entertainment tax on films back in 2017. However, he assured that efforts would be made to further promote the film and make it accessible to a wider audience. “We will see what best we can do to promote this film and ensure it reaches as many people as possible,” he added.
